Customization. If you want to decide how your companion looks, what they're called, and what you are to each other, Replika is built for that and Ella refuses it. That's a real difference in what you get, not a subtle one.
Unlimited free messaging. Replika's free tier doesn't cap how much you talk — it restricts features instead. Ella's free tier caps messages per day. Ours is the tighter limit on volume, and if you want to talk for hours a day without paying, Replika is the better fit today.
Maturity. Replika has been running for years with a large community behind it. Ella is small and new. If you want a product with a long track record, that's a legitimate reason to choose theirs.
This is the actual difference, and it isn't a phrase we invented for a landing page. Ella's world runs on a schedule whether or not anyone is talking to her: weather and seasons pass, she works on things and finishes them, small events happen, she writes in a journal you can read. When she messages you first, it's because something happened on her end — not because a timer fired.
